Porte Dauphine, a prestigious area just next to the Bois de Boulogne

A majestic road 460 feet wide runs through the district, and is the very chic Avenue Foch. Between the Bois de Boulogne and the Champs-Élysées, this stylish, airy neighborhood is great for staying in the capital with your family. Avenue Foch, known simply as Avenue du Bois for many years, was created in 1854, under Napoleon III, to connect Paris to the Bois de Boulogne. Magnificent mansions were constructed, and the avenue quickly became the place to be seen for elegant ladies, society women, and courtesans.

Porte Dauphine, luxury and nature

Avenue Foch is a real arboretum in the center of Paris. It has more than 600 trees of different species, including a chestnut tree with a circumference of 15 feet, the largest tree in Paris. The Bois de Boulogne is just at the end of the avenue and attracts different types of visitors during the day and at night. The Musée Ennery (59 Avenue Foch) houses a collection of objects from the Far East. The unusual Musée de la Contrefaçon (16 Rue de la Faisanderie) is located in a mansion that is listed as a historic monument.

Porte Dauphine, stylish shopping and food stores

Avenue Victor-Hugo has many very chic fashion outlets and fine food stores. The covered market on Rue Saint-Didier (Rue Mesnil and Rue St Didier) is great for stocking up on fresh produce. As the district is fairly exclusive, there are not many local stores, and the ones that are there are rather pricey. The area is served by the Porte-Dauphine and Victor-Hugo (line 2) metro stations as well as Avenue Foch RER station (line C1).
