A rural area with a modest feel
The Buttes-Chaumont district is becoming increasingly popular. It is a lively district, perfect for those who want to escape the crowds. Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is a vast garden in the Haussmann style. It was built in 1867 on an old stone quarry for the Paris World's Fair. Covering more than 60 acres, it is the third largest green space in the capital after La Villette and Les Tuileries. With its high altitude and fresh air, the Buttes-Chaumont district is an enjoyable place to visit on a daily basis.
A vast park overlooking Paris
The Buttes-Chaumont park is a hilly garden almost 330 feet up. Particularly popular among sporty people who come to recharge, it is a stunning location with grottoes, waterfalls, footbridges, a suspension bridge, a Greco-Roman style arch dominating the park. The suspension bridge soars 213 feet above the lake - not for the faint-hearted! It is the perfect park for children with its puppet theater, pony rides, swings, carousel, and a playground with sandboxes, slides, artificial streams, and more.
A place adapted for daily life
The district also has a large number of typical Parisian bistros and restaurants. Food is reasonably priced and the atmosphere welcoming. At the center of the park, the Rosa Bonheur bistro-café has live music and a well-established reputation. The district can be reached by metro line 7, which serves the Botzaris and Buttes-Chaumont stations, and by line 5 at the Laumière station.
