A turntable for getting to the Butte-aux-Cailles or the Asian neighborhood
In the center, Place d'Italie offers the hustle and bustle of its shopping center and its movie theaters. Historically, it was an industrial area in the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. While an old, undeveloped environment has been retained on the Butte-aux-Cailles side, unsanitary blocks were demolished and paved the way, on the other side of Avenue d'Italie, allowing for the emersion of a modern neighborhood. From the 1980s, successive waves of refugees from southeast Asia came to this area the enjoy thge sights.
Place d'Italie, one district, two sides
With its playgrounds, carousels, and deckchairs, Parc de Choisy (128 Avenue de Choisy) is perfect for family strolls. Square René Le Gall (1 Rue Emile Deslandres) is more intimate, with a stream and a miniature forest. A stone's throw from Place d'Italie, enjoy the distinct village feel of the charming Butte-aux-Cailles district, near Rue des Cinq-Diamants and Rue de la Butte-aux-Cailles. In the direction of Porte de Choisy, there is an entirely different atmosphere in Paris's colorful Chinatown, where restaurants and exotic stores abound.
Place d'Italie, an area for food lovers
Rue de Tolbiac is crammed with food stores. A well-stocked market with many stands is held on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings on Boulevard Vincent Auriol. There is a good choice of stores on either side of the district. The district is served by Place d'Italie metro station (lines 5, 6, and 7).
