Vital organ of the left bank

Situated high up, the Luxembourg district is one of the most famous and popular in all of Paris. It is particularly pleasant, and has a relatively small population -fewer than 10,000 inhabitants-. . With very little traffic on the roads, it is a very airy neighborhood that dominates Boulevard Saint-Michel. With the nearby Grandes Écoles, the garden and the surrounding areas are a meeting place for families and walkers of all ages. At the crossroads with Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Montparnasse district, and the Latin Quarter, this lively area attracts a lot of people.

A place for wandering

You can't get bored walking up and down the roads of the Jardin du Luxembourg or the surrounding streets. Day-to-day life is as fascinating as the monuments that decorate it. Constructed at the beginning of the 17th century for Marie de Medicis, the building is now home to the French Senate, the upper house of the government. On the east side of the Palais, visitors can discover the Orangery, with the Musée National d’Art Moderne. The garden's paths lead down to the Fontaine Medicis. Every night, the Odéon theater puts on a variety of shows.

Everything nearby

All around the Jardin du Luxembourg, the streets are livened up by the terraces of restaurants and brasseries. Gourmet shops and convenience stores offer traditional products and more exotic specialties. The district is connected to the public transportation network by metro line 10 and RER line B. Several buses stop along Boulevard Saint-Michel or Rue de Vaugirard.
