The perfect neighborhood for discovering the Paris of the Belle Époque!
Rue de La Fayette is one of the main streets in the north -east of Paris and connects Boulevard Haussmann and Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad. La Fayette is a lively neighborhood with the pulsating atmosphere of the department stores, bars, and restaurants. Printemps Haussmann and Galeries Lafayette attract a multitude of tourists every day. The facade, the stained glass dome, the metal pillars, and the rounded balustrades of Galeries Lafayette have been kept intact since the building was first constructed during the beginning of the 20th century.
A neighborhood symbolic of the Art Nouveau style
The main attraction in the La Fayette area is the Galeries Lafayette department store. This enormous store can welcome up to 100,000 visitors a day! During the Christmas season, the windows twinkle with thousands of lights, a marvelous sight for young and old alike. A few streets away, the Opéra Garnier opera house is a symbol of baroque architecture during the reign of Napoleon III. Opened in 1875, it is now used exclusively for ballet. In his novel The Phantom of the Opera, Gaston Leroux fuels the legend of an underground lake under the opera house.
